Theme: Exploring and making connections in Performing Arts.

Competency: Learners should be able to create, appreciate and market works of performing arts in various styles and cultures to effectively entertain the school and wider community. They should understand how this will enable them to earn a living.

Under this theme we have the following topics

  1. Performing Arts in the natural environment
  2. Discovering the basic elements of music
  3. Exploring business in Performing Arts

Course Content

S1 Term 1 Topic 1 Performing Arts in Natural Environment
This topic is done in S1 Term 1 where learners are taught to work with the natural environment. Using the thing surrounding us including; plants animals, and all other creatures that inspire the creation of performing arts and can be used in the presentation of music, dance and drama.

S1 Term 1 Topic 2 Discovering the Basic Elements of Music
A topic that basically talks about elements of music. In this topic you are going to explore and demonstrate the meaning and effects of music. These include the stave, treble clef, key signature and time among others. You are also going to learn music composition and explore pitch, duration and tempo.

S1 Term 1 Topic 3 Exploring Business in Performing Arts
By the end of this chapter, you will be able to; a. Understand the commercial role of performing arts b. Understand the commercial role of performing arts and how these effects the natural environment

S1 Term 2 Topic 1: Using African Styles in Performing Arts
By the end of this topic, you will be able to; 1. Appreciate and simulate African styles into own works of Performing Arts. 2. Identify and present performing artworks that reflect African contexts and influences. 3. Trace African art styles in Ugandan artworks You are going to study African traditional songs, dances and drama. You are to employ ideas and styles from the arts to compose your own related songs, dances and drama to entertain and educate your school community.

By the end of this topic you will be able to use basic music elements of pitch, duration and tempo to appreciate to study, present and appreciate music in simple time.

S1 Term 2 Topic 3 Experimenting Arts with Business in Performing Arts
By the end of this topic, you will be able to; a. Understand the sales and marketing components required in Performing Arts b. Appreciate the ways in which the performing arts affect their own and others' identity

S1 Term 3 Topic 1 Using African Styles in Performing Arts
By the end of this topic, you will be able to; a. Understand the performance of artworks which include African characteristics inspired by any stimulus from the environment. b. Trace the African art styles in Ugandan art c. Explore the natural environment to awaken your creativity in music, dance and drama

S1 Term 3 Topic 2 Using the Basic Elements of Music
By the end of this topic you will be able to use the music elements of dynamics, pitch, duration, tempo and present works of Performing Arts.

S1 Term 3 Topic 3 Performing Arts in the Economy
By the end of this topic you will be able to appreciate the causes of audience preference and understand the role of performing arts to national development
